Choosing Zenon for Your Dance Residency
"Not only did we experience the thrill of creative
movement and dance based on our own ideas, we were able to observe,
firsthand, professionals working in an art they obviously love...We
are already looking forward to working with you again next
year!"
- Mary Dybvig, Principal, K-12 Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing
Program, Como Park Elementary
Zenon Dance Company is committed to bringing quality dance
education to communities across the nation. The company's
Educational Outreach Program strive to reach diverse communities
that are not traditionally exposed to dance. In the past five
years the company has participated in over fifty residencies in
public and private schools, open and magnet schools, and community
centers.
Zenon's Artistic Director, Linda Z. Andrews, has trained the
company over the years to work creatively with students of all ages
and abilities. The company has worked extensively with the
deaf and hard of hearing community as well as at-risk youth
including teenage mothers and children with behavioral
disorders. Regardless of the population with which they are
working, Zenon chooses activities that strengthen self esteem,
teach group communication skills, and build trust. The
current curriculum or goals of the community or school are
integrated throughout the residency and often results in a final
performance based on a relevant subject matter chosen by the
participants. Past performances include pieces about Mayan
culture, nightmare and dreams, planets and galaxies, and
geometry.
